Mostly spoiler free review of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (3D). If you don’t want to know any names of characters who appear in this movie, you probably shouldn’t read it before watching it. Otherwise, you’re good.

Fans have waited 10 years for the continuation of Star Wars. In my opinion, it was totally worth it.

Although I am not one of the biggest Star Wars fans, I did enjoy watching the original trilogy as a kid and when re-watching it lately, I liked it still. I remember having seen the first prequel in the cinema – and I hated it so much that I never went back to watch the rest of it. I did watch the prequels last year (or rather suffered through them) and I choose not to watch them again.

When I heard that J. J. Abrams would direct Episode VII, I was very excited. As a Star Trek fan, I had watched Abrams’ re-envisioned version with joy. I hear you critics saying that it wasn’t a good Star Trek movie, and I partly agree with you, but it was such a good movie. I honestly can’t say how often I have watched it… It’s embarrassing, really. (Let’s not talk about Into Darkness, though. That was embarrassing on a whole different level.)

Then, we got the first teaser trailer for The Force Awakens.

A typical beauty and the beast story. Kyle (Alex Pettyfer) is a handsome and popular young man, and the son of a television news reporter who values beauty over everything else. He makes fun of Kendra (Mary-Kate Olsen), a typical goth rumoured to be a witch who is considered to be ugly. She warns him not to provoke her unless he wants to suffer from the consequences. Of course, he doesn’t heed the warning.

Movie Review #1: Sin City – A Dame To Kill For (2014)

Title: Sin City – A Dame To Kill For (IMDb)
Directed by: Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller
Written by: Frank Miller
Year: 2014
Length: 102 min
Rating: 18
My IMDb rating: 9/10

This movie is really sexy. Naked bodies everywhere (mostly female but on one occasion also male). The rating isn’t just for sexiness either. There is more than enough of violence in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. While the feminist in me was screaming at me to get out, the comic geek in me was cheering in her seat. I couldn’t help thinking: Damn, what an amazing movie.

I haven’t read the graphic novel yet, so I can’t compare that to the movie adaptation. I will solely consider the movie then.

The cast speaks for itself: among others, we have Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Josh Brolin, Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson, and of course, our dame Eva Green.
