Title: The Story of My Tits
Written and Illustrated by: Jennifer Hayden
Publisher: Top Shelf
Year: 2015
In The Story of My Tits Jennifer Hayden takes the reader on a journey through the complicated and sometimes painful coming-of-age story of a young girl, the women in her life, and their battle with cancer. This graphic novel is based on Hayden’s life and her experiences with growing up, love, sex, but also illness and death.
Jennifer Hayden’s art is detailed but not clustered with anything unnecessary. Her lines are strong but still carry a softness that conveys the strong emotions of the story perfectly.
This book is an emotional roller coaster, especially if you have or had someone in your life who was diagnosed with cancer. But this is also a book that ends with a very positive outlook on life. The author’s message seems to be: accept yourself, love yourself and cherish the life that you have. It’s the only one you get.

Hayden manages to make The Story of My Tits a sometimes funny, sometimes sad and very personal memoir full of heart.
I recommend this book highly to everyone, but especially to women, old and young. It is powerful and empowering. Something we can’t get enough of in our lives.
